Georgetown Historic Planning

Historic and Architectural Review Commission (HARC)

This Commission reviews projects within the Downtown and Old Town Historic Overlay Districts for compliance with the approval criteria, including the Design Guidelines. HARC reviews new commercial and residential projects in the Downtown and Old Town Districts, additions and alterations to historic structures within the districts, and demolition requests for historic structures. In some cases HARC reviews new signage within the Downtown and Old Town Districts. The Commission issues a Certificate of Appropriateness for approved projects that are consistent with the Downtown Design Guidelines.  The Commission meets on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at 6 pm.

HARC will return to in-person meetings in the City Council Chambers, located at 510 W. 9th Street, on July 8, 2021. The Commission has been and is currently meeting virtually, and will continue virtual meetings for the month of June, 2021. The public is invited to join the meetings via the virtual meeting link or via phone. Meeting information is available in the agendas that are posted at agendas.georgetown.org.
